This is another one of those posts… you know, the ones that are really just for me (so I can look back and remember… ponder… learn… etc.)… the ones where I wear my heart on my sleeve and make a fool of myself… yeah. So really, just carry on to the next post, it would be for the best. Really, I mean that.
After Christmas I was invited to take part in the annual Dameron family (and other Montesano families) mud football game. I hadn’t been able to come before so I was pretty excited. I was not disappointed. It was a good mix of skill and… well not so much (me being the later category). The day was perfect for the time, nice and cool and extremely wet. One of the moms took some pictures and video clips (so none of them are actually mine, but you can still enjoy them) so you can enjoy the mud too! The full set of pictures can be found at Flickr: Christmas Mud Bowl 2006.
Middle of January and I am posting pictures from Christmas? Yep, it’s true. I finally uploaded two Withrow family parties to Flickr. The first is the northern contingent at Dan and Michelle’s along with Justin’s family. The second party was down south with the rest of the gang. The pictures can be found over at my Flickr set: Withrow Family Christmas 2006.

The week after the new year I am finally posting on my family Christmas that took place a week before Christmas! Sounds about right, eh? This was the annual celebration with my dad’s side of the family: the Joneses, Bradys, Footes, Conants, and Withrows. The power was out for half the day up at the Brady household in Edmonds, but that didn’t stop us from having fun and eating lots of tasty food! All of the pictures can be viewed at my Flickr set: Jones Family Christmas 2006. Yes the pictures are biased towards Emily. But really, can you blame me?
Waiting patiently. - Emily and her new pink sweater. Emily got Curt and Wendy a painted footprint! - The family in the chaos.
Been a while, hasn’t it? Sorry about that, you know how things go. I trust everyone had a good end to their two double aught six and allowed aught seven to begin with style! I am back up in Bellingham after spending two weeks down with the family in Longview and/or Woodland. After my hiatus, I have noticed that I have a LOT of blogging to catch up on (and yes, they are daily life posts, sorry if those are boring to you!). Posts to look forward to soon:
A quick reunion with some great friends from high school.
My (sort of) best of CD for 2006.
Still need to do a review of The Lonely Forest’s EP Regicide.
I think that is all I have to do, although I am sure there are many other things I need/should touch on. We will see I guess. I also need to update my Flickr photostream with the latest snapshots.
I could make some sort of New Year’s resolution that would be boring. This year I am going to try something different. This year I resolve to get a date! Yes, that’s right. Kinda lame, I know, but really, I think it is a goal I would like to set. (More lame stuff to follow, please feel free to skip on to other posts…) Read more…
Is “Slow Down” one word or two? Hyphen? Whatever. I am down in the south of Washington, it is quite lively this time of year… Blogging will be light over the next two weeks as I spend more time with family and just slacking off in general. I do still plan on getting up posts on the Lonely Forest show at the Historic University Theater, the Late Tuesday show at the Q Cafe, dad’s side of the family Christmas party, and step-dad’s side of the family Christmas party… eventually. Pretty fun weekend! Even the Saturday at 8:30 am (!!!) UCF board meeting was extremely enjoyable! More to follow!
As I drove north after the lovely Thanksgiving weekend down in the south of Washington things got colder. I noticed a bit of white on the ground while passing through Seattle and as I progressed along I-5 the bit of white became soft flurries of snow. By the time I hit Burlington and Mount Vernon I actually had to drop the pace down to 55 or so. The roads got slicker and the flurries became less soft. About 20 miles south of Bellingham the break lights appeared. Stopped on I-5 I admitted that my decent pace (despite the flurries) had come to an end. Two hours later and 20 miles traversed I arrived at my exit.
I had made it all this way without the aid of my chains that remained parked in my apartment closet. My worries of getting stuck on the freeway after stopping numerous times in the not so gripping ice and slush became unfounded. I thought I was in the free and clear until the old adage popped into my head: most accidents occur within in a mile of your own home. Thankfully I made it within 10 feet of my apartment so I figured I had conquered that maxim until the slight hill into the parking lot had its way with my slightly bald tires. What could I do but mock the hill by making the slight trek by foot to pull the trusty chains out of their hiding spot (oh, where were you when I tried and failed to safely summit Snoqualmie?). Chains secure, I roared up the little hill and into my parking spot, my car looking quite boring sitting next to the neighbors’ 15 inches of snow atop their vehicles. My adventure safely completed, I vowed never to drive in Bellingham again.
My walking tour of Bellingham was the natural result of that pledge. I love the snow because there are fewer people on the roads and everything is muted and peaceful. Now you all can enjoy the beauty that is Bellingham covered in snow.
The view out the back.

Well, I am still thankful for all of these things. It’s true. We have a lot of things to be thankful for, remember that. Even if you love to complain about things, you have a lot of things to be thankful for. We have been blessed in order that we may be a blessing. Live that out!
A short list of things I am thankful for (in no particular order):
God’s continuing blessings, faithfulness, and redemption
Have a great day!
And thanks to Jae for the appropriate verse: James 1:16-17 (NAS):
16Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. 17Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.
God has provided, He is the reason we can and should be thankful.
Supermoon over Mount Baker!! Ok, really it’s just a Full Moon at perigee. It is about 14% bigger and 30% brighter. You know, assuming you can see it. And no, it isn’t connected with natural disasters.
Football! It was a smaller group today, but that didn’t take away from the fun times we had. After a few hard hits and a sprint at the end, I am pretty tired and sore. Ready to play again though!
Christ be with me, Christ within me,
Christ behind me, Christ before me,
Christ beside me, Christ to win me,
Christ to comfort and restore me.
Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ in quiet, Christ in danger,
Christ in hearts of all that love me,
Christ in mouth of friend and stranger.
I bind unto myself the Name,
The strong Name of the Trinity;
By invocation of the same.
The Three in One, and One in Three,
Of Whom all nature hath creation,
Eternal Father, Spirit, Word:
Praise to the Lord of my salvation,
Salvation is of Christ the Lord.
