Doohan Beamed Up
I don’t intend the title to be flippant, much respect is given to the Star Trek actor who died yesterday at 85. James Doohan was born on March 3, 1920 and died July 21, 2005 at his home in nearby Redmond, WA with his wife at his side. “Scotty” was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and will have his ashes blased into space (as was done with Trek creator Roddenberry).
Everyone who watched Star Trek liked Scotty, but everyone who met him loved Jimmy
Doohan has a very interesting biography, to read up, head over here, here, and here.
Farewell and thanks for holding the ship together.
Shalom
Ἡ χάρις τοῦ κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ μεθ᾽ ὑμῶν.
I had the opportunity to meet him once. Seemed to be a nice guy!
Here’s my post: http://biognome.blogspot.com/2005/07/beam-him-up.html
That guy has to have THE friendliest face on earth. I never watched Star Trek. I was really into Legos though! ( I offer that last bit of info to make up for the fact that I wasn’t into something as American as Star Trek)
I am very sad to see Doohan go.
I have read that he was one of the nicest people to meet and I liked the fact that he truly embraced his character and didn’t mind all the “Beam me up, Scotty” comments. Thanks for all the links.
Seems to be that Doohan was quite a nice guy. I am sure he will be missed greatly by his friends and family.
